About Us
A large immigrant population presents our community with a number of benefits, as well as, a number of challenges. Some of these challenges are language barriers and differences in values and beliefs.
Charlotte AHEC's Cultural and Language Diversity team provides educational and training programs that help our community and its immigrants bridge the barriers of language and culture. We share the goals of the NC AHEC Workforce Diversity Program: "to encourage and strengthen the development of activities that serve to improve the diversity and cultural competence of the health care workforce."
Our primary goals include:
- Improve access to and quality of care to Latino residents.
- Develop educational programs that provide a better understanding of the Latino cultural background and assist public service providers in understanding issues which affect their service delivery.
- Develop educational activities that serve to improve the diversity and cultural competence of the health care workforce.
