AHEC Quality Initiatives
AIR 1000/Asthma Initiative
A1R/1000 is a Charlotte AHEC Asthma Initiative, funded by a grant through the Duke Endowment and in collaboration with the CCHI and Southern Regional AHEC. The mission of this 3-year program aims to improve outcomes of care for all asthmatic children within the 8-county CAHEC region and to support the NC AHEC initiative of integrating practice-based, outcome-oriented approaches to CME. This collaborative program includes interventions at the policy, health care system, and practice levels to implement a model of chronic illness care that involves all practices and communities in the CAHEC and SRAHEC regions. We intend to spread this innovative approach throughout our region in order to play a key role in ongoing healthcare improvements in North Carolina.
Our program is also part of a larger effort in which CCHI (formerly the UNC Children's Primary Care Research Group) will work in partnership with the NC Division of Medical Assistance and the NC Asthma Alliance to spread proven improvements in asthma care delivery to every North Carolina primary care practice caring for children.
