Enduring Materials

An enduring material is a non-live CME activity that "endures" over time. Enduring materials include printed, recorded, audio, video, and online/electronic activities. Please note the ACCME standards are rigorous regarding academic need and measurable outcomes. A submitted application does not guarantee credit. All activities must demonstrate an impact on physician competence, physician performance, and/or patient outcomes. We will guide you through the application and planning process to ensure that ACCME expectations are met and to see if your proposed activity qualifies for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Please contact us before submitting an application.

Details for Enduring Materials

Enduring materials must comply with all ACCME Essentials Areas and Elements (including the Standards for Commercial Support) and Accreditation Policies. However, there are special communication requirements for enduring materials because of the nature of the activities. Because there is no direct interaction between the provider and/or faculty and the learner, the provider must communicate the following information to participants so that they are aware of this information prior to starting the educational activity:

  • Principle faculty and their credentials;
  • Medium or combination of media used;
  • Method of physician participation in the learning process;
  • Estimated time to complete the educational activity (same as number of designated credit hours);
  • Dates of original release and most recent review or update; and
  • Termination date (date after which enduring material is no longer certified for credit).

Charlotte AHEC CME Policy

  • Charlotte AHEC CME will review each enduring material at least once every two years or more frequently if indicated by new scientific developments
  • We, whether through directly or jointly sponsored activities, may not enlist the assistance of commercial interests to provide or distribute enduring materials to learners
  • We require a post-test and standard evaluation for approved internet activity enduring materials in order to verify learner participation
  • Sometimes we will create an enduring material from a live CME activity. When this occurs, ACCME considers us to have created two separate activities - one live activity and one enduring material activity. Both activities must comply with all Charlotte AHEC CME / ACCME requirements, and the enduring material activity must comply additionally with all ACCME policies that relate specifically to enduring materials
